Where medicure hearing began

It all started with my own hearing!

Why I founded an ear wax removal service:

Hello, I am Amy, the founder of medicure hearing & health, an ear wax removal service! My career in nursing all started back in 2012 when I started a job in Aintree hospital as a healthcare assistant. Over my 10 year career in the hospital, I worked over lots of different wards & specialities, including 18 months on the covid ward during the pandemic! I also went to university during this time where I trained as a nurse associate and joined the NMC register as a medical professional.

Why I started my ear wax removal service in Liverpool?

Having suffered with 'glue ear' since I was a child, I always had minor issues with my ears growing up. Until 2018, when I discovered that I had something called a 'cholesteatoma' in my ear after losing a significant amount of hearing. A cholesteatoma is an abnormal tumor like sac of keratinizing squamous epithelium and accumulation of keratin within the middle ear or mastoid air cell spaces which can become infected and also erode neighbouring structures. In my case, the cholesteatoma had eroded my hearing bones which I needed to have reconstructed with prosthetics. My mastoid bone (part of the skull) was also infected which had to be removed! Unfortunately, this reoccurred on my other ear, which ultimately lead to me having to wear bilateral hearing aids.

Being a hearing aid user, I suffer with a build up of ear wax removal myself. Before the pandemic, the NHS kept on top of my ear wax appointments, however since 2020 I struggled to get an appointment! Alongside the long wait times for hospital ear wax removal appointments, most GP's also no longer offer ear wax removal services for their patients. This resulted in a large number of people struggling to access ear wax removal services.

Having had my own struggles with hearing, I understand that people can not afford to wait for months for an appointment. Hearing loss causes so many issues in ones daily life including communication issues & social anxiety.

I decided to help others with this problem so began Medicure hearing! I trained with a leading UK audiologist in Macclesfield, where after 3 months of case studies & practice, I received all my certificates and began my ear wax removal service!

Meeting new people every day and helping them regain their hearing is really rewarding and something I am genuinely passionate about.
